Who We Are
Aerial Frontiers is a Scotland based aerial team solely interested in supplying visuals for the Film, TV and Media industry. In the last six years, their work has ranged from feature documentary to professional sports to drama, taking them from Morocco to Bermuda and numerous countries in between - However their knowledge of their home countries best filming locations is worth just as much as their ability in the air.
AF is not just a team of drone pilots, operators and camera enthusiasts - their passion is innovation in cinematography. From ground-level tracking to impossible single-takes they thrive off original and challenging visions.
Sam is the experienced drone pilot with an engineering background. On set he fixes and builds equipment and
executes all the aerial manoeuvres.
Sam is also Aerial Frontier’s ‘Aviation Liaison’ - previously gaining permissions to fly in Class A airspace, congested areas in Fukuoka, Japan on behalf of the Americas Cup Sailing Event and in Gothenburg’s congested areas on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Team for the Volvo Ocean Race.
Thomas Hogben is our skilled aerial gimbal operator who began his career at Napier University, graduating with a BA Honours in Photography & Film Production in 2008, before diversifying his experience and skill set by undertaking a MSc in Animation and Visualisation. Before Aerial Frontiers he has worked on a number of short films, which featured at festivals in both Europe and America, helping him to develop as a director and filmmaker giving him an understanding of what the client and director is looking to capture.
Archie is our talented camera technician and freelance Cinematographer. Archie has a 1st class BA Honours in Film and Moving Image Production from the Northern Film School in Leeds, as well as studying at FAMU Film school in Prague. He has shot a feature documentary in the Sahara, commercials for Diesel, Toyota and Tinder as well as short films and music videos.
Archie is also a ICU certified colourist, his studies of cinematography and directing give him an understanding of what you are looking for as a director/client.
AF work out of an Edinburgh location for the UK/Borders and Inverness for all Highland locations.
If you have projects outside of the UK AF has numerous experience gaining permissions to work in strict and non-english speaking countries.
AF are fully CAA approved and BNUCs qualified, ensuring the highest standards in safety and operation. They have a £5 million public liability insurance and full UAV cover to enable us to film day, night and over water.
